Aaron Marshall Elliott (January 24, 1844 – November 9, 1910) was an American novelist and professor at Johns Hopkins University. He is considered the founder of the Modern Language Association.[1][2][3][4] He graduated from Harvard College in 1868, received a PhD from Princeton University in 1877 and taught at Guilford College.[5] He was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 1895.[6]
