Abdussalam Puthige

Abdussalam Puthige is the Editor-in-Chief of Varthabharathi,^[3][4] a Kannada daily Newspaper, published from Mangalore^[5] the coastal city of Karnataka and Bangalore,^[6] the state capital. The first issue of Vartha Bharathi hit the stands on 29 August 2003 from Mangalore.^[7]

Career

His English work, Towards Performing Da'wah,^[8] was published in UK by The International Council for Islamic Information (ICII), Leicester.^[9][10] Puthige has dealt with marginalised communities in a widely published interview titled 'The Muslim Kannadiga' by scholar and researcher Yoginder Sikand.^[11]

'Kannadadalli Qur'an Anuvada' was released on 1 September 2012 by Rajarshi Dr.Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra, Dharmasthala Temple.^[12] This work has already seen 4 Editions. Its third Edition was published in Dubai by the Department of Islamic Affairs, Government of Dubai, UAE. The releasing ceremony in Dubai was inaugurated by Mr. MK Lokesh, Ambassador of India in UAE.^[13] This translation of Quran is available online.^[14] The same is also available as an android application the Google Play for free with the title 'Quran in Kannada' .^[15]

Karnataka Media Academy of The Government of Karnataka conferred 'Lifetime Achievement Award' to Abdussalam Puthige in 2024, recognition his contributions to journalism and Media. ^[16] He was also conferred with the Sandesha Media Award for 2024.^[17]

Personally participated in the 16th Session of the United Nations Forum on Minority Issues, held at Geneva Switzerland on 30 th November and 1st December 2023.
