Adire symbols are the symbols traditionally made on Adire.[1][2] These are Yoruba symbols of meaning in the indigo-dyed patterns representing stories, proverbs, nature and aspirations.[3] The Adire Symbols include: Ododo (Flower), Olokun (wealth), Igi Iye (life tree for growth), Kokoro (Key), Sunbebe (royalty beads), Ejo (snake for transformation), Odan (fig tree for life), cowries (money), and talking drums (festivals)[4][5]. These motifs, from geometric shapes to animals and plants, convey relevant meaning from the Adire maker, often inspired by various things and are categorized into geometric, figural, and letter patterns[2]. There are flora, fauna, object and abstract motives.
