History
Alexanders was built in 1917.[1] In 1942, Cinema Bowling Center occupied the building,[2] and in 1950, the building housed Carlin's Cinema Sports Center, which featured a rumpus room, barber shop, gift shop, bowling, pool, and a fountain café and juice bar.[3]
In 1984, the Hollywood Boulevard Commercial and Entertainment District was added to the National Register of Historic Places, with Alexanders listed in the district. The listing noted that Alexanders has some compatibility in design and massing with its contributing property neighbor, but despite this, Alexanders was not listed as a contributing property in the district.[1]
