Early life and education

Scheer was born in South Miami, where she grew up in a middle-class neighborhood. Her mother emigrated to the U.S. from Medellin, Colombia, in 1978. Her father is Jewish. She became interested in acting, music, and playwriting from a young age.[1] She graduated from New World of the Arts High School in 2010, and holds a bachelor's degree in musical theater from the Boston Conservatory and a Master of Fine Arts in playwriting from Boston University.[2]

Career

While at Boston University, she premiered Our Dear Dead Drug Lord in 2018, for which she was named The Improper Bostonian's Rising Theatre Star of 2018.[3] She also had an apprenticeship at the Huntington Theatre Company.[1] For her thesis, she wrote Laughs in Spanish, which was first produced in 2019 at Boston Playwrights' Theatre,[4] premiering in 2022 at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and was performed at GableStage in 2024 in Coral Gables, FL.[5] Our Dear Dead Drug Lord was produced Off-Broadway in 2019,[6] produced by the WP Theater and Second Stage Theater.[7][8]

Scheer was a writer on the first season of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.[2] She made her Broadway debut in 2023, working on the book adaptation of Bad Cinderella, previously on The West End.[9] Her play Breaking the Story had its world premiere off-Broadway at Second Stage Theater in June 2024.[10][11][12]

Scheer has been announced to write the book of the new musical Mrs. Santa Claus, based on the movie of the same name, at Goodspeed Musicals, which will premiere in November 2025.[13] She has also done voice acting.[1]
