Anyma is the solo project of Matteo Milleri, an Italian-American electronic music producer, DJ, and multidisciplinary artist[3] also known as one half of the duo Tale of Us and the co-founder of Afterlife Records. The project's debut EP, Claire, was released in June 2021 and featured a number of collaborations as well as the world's first full-size NFT music video. The second EP, Sentient, followed in July 2021. The full-length album Genesys came out in August 2023 and was followed a year later by Genesys II. Anyma has collaborated with artists such as Grimes, Sevdaliza, Ellie Goulding, CamelPhat, Yeat, and FKA Twigs.

Tale of Us

Milleri first achieved artistic notability as half of the duo Tale of Us with Carmine Conte (MRAK). After releasing several EPs independently starting in 2011, Tale of Us signed with Deutsche Grammophon in 2017 and issued their first full-length album, Endless.[4][5] They also founded their own label, Afterlife, in 2016,[6] and in 2023 partnered with Interscope.[7]

The first Afterlife Festival, a two-day event with dual stages, one curated by Anyma and one by MRAK, is scheduled to take place in Barcelona in June 2025.[6]

2021: Solo debut

Matteo Milleri of Tale of Us launched the musical project Anyma in 2021.[12][13]

The project's debut EP, Claire, was released in June 2021 on Rose Avenue Records[14][15][16] and featured collaborations with Janus Rasmussen and Delhia de France.[17][18] The title track was accompanied by the world's first full-size and full-definition NFT music video, created by Berlin-based artist Marigoldff and IOR50 Studio.[18][17][19][20]

Anyma's second EP, Sentient, came out in July 2021, on Afterlife Records.[21][22][23]

2022–2023: Genesys

The project's first full-length album, Genesys, was released on 11 August 2023.[24][25][26] It consisted of 14 tracks and featured guest artists such as Grimes, Sevdaliza, and CamelPhat.[27]

Anyma's 2023 live appearances included a set on Tomorrowland's Freedom Stage, in Belgium.[28]

2024–present: Genesys II, The End of Genesys, and Sphere residency

On 29 March 2024, Anyma published his second studio album, Genesys II, on Afterlife/Interscope Records. The 21-track release included collaborations with PARISI, Karin Park, and others, as well as remixes from Eric Prydz, Kölsch, Amelie Lens, Daniel Avery, and up-and-coming artists from the Afterlife label. Accompanying the album were visual elements from Tobias Gremmler and Alessio De Vecchi and a jewelry partnership with BVLGARI.[29][30]

Anyma's major live appearances in 2024 included Coachella (sharing the stage with Eric Prydz,[31] Chris Avantgarde, and others),[32] Tomorrowland,[33] Always Live in Melbourne, Australia,[34] and Ataköy Marina Arena in Istanbul, Turkey.[35]

On 15 July, it was announced that Milleri would be heading a residency, "Afterlife presents Anyma: The End of Genesys", at Sphere in Las Vegas, from late December to early 2025.[36][37][38][39][40][41] He was the first electronic artist ever booked at the venue.[42][43] 100,000 tickets for the first six shows were reported to have sold in 24 hours.[44]

By popular demand, four shows in February and March 2025 were added to the original eight-day run.[45]

Guest artists at the residency included Ellie Goulding,[46] FKA Twigs,[47] John Summit,[48] Grimes,[46] Luke Steele,[49] and Yeat, whose appearance was the first by a rapper at the venue.[50] Anyma collaborated with Alessio De Vecchi and Alexander Wessely on the visuals for the shows.[51]

On 10 January 2025, Anyma released "Hypnotized", a collaboration with Ellie Goulding, as the lead single from his upcoming third studio album. The track was met with widespread acclaim from critics.[52][53] "Hypnotized" reached No. 1 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, becoming Anyma's first No. 1 single on any Billboard chart.[54] On 14 February, he released "Voices in My Head" with Argy and Son of Son, as the album's second single.[55] During the last show of his residency, Milleri confirmed that his upcoming album would be titled The End of Genesys and would come out on 23 May.[56][57] On 25 March, it was reported that Milleri had signed a global publishing deal with Kobalt Music Group.[58][59]

Anyma performed back-to-back sets with Solomun at Ultra Music Festival's 25th edition in March 2025,[60] and in a surprise performance appeared with Yeat at Coachella 2025.[61] Other 2025 bookings have included Tomorrowland,[62] the Sziget Festival in Budapest, Hungary,[63] Zurich Open Air in Switzerland,[64] and Rock en Seine in France.[65]

Artistry

Anyma's sound is influenced by melodic house and techno, with elements of ambient, electronica, and classical music.[66]

His live performances are designed to create a sonic and visual landscape that allows the audience to interact with the digital art and music.[67][12][13]

Visual arts and fashion

In 2023, Milleri collaborated with the Milan fashion collective 44 Label Group on a "capsule collection" meant to reflect "the seamless synergy between music and fashion".[68] In 2024, he was the visual creative director for the Weeknd's One Night Only concert in São Paulo, Brazil.[69]

Personal life

Matteo Milleri was born in New York City, the son of Italian business magnate Francesco Milleri.[70] He moved to Italy at a young age and met Carmine Conte in Milan in 2008 while studying sound engineering at the SAE Institute. They formed the duo Tale of Us and relocated to Berlin, where they became a prominent act on the electronic music scene. They also founded their own label, Afterlife, in 2016, which also hosts events.[13]

Milleri married Italian supermodel Vittoria Ceretti in 2020.[71][72] In June 2023, Ceretti announced her separation from Milleri in a TikTok video.[73] Milleri has not commented on his marital status or his relationship with Ceretti.[74]

In March 2024, it became public that Milleri is in a relationship with Grimes.[75][76]
