Apheloria is a genus of flat-backed millipedes in the tribe Apheloriini within the family Xystodesmidae.[1][2] These millipedes are found in the central and northeastern regions of the United States,[3] but they also range as far north as southern Quebec in Canada.[4] They are aposematically colored in black and contrasting reds and yellows, and some species in the Appalachian Mountains resemble species of Brachoria where they co-occur, a phenomenon known as Müllerian mimicry.[5] The genus was first described by Ralph Vary Chamberlin in 1921.[6][7]
