Ashok Prashar (Pappi) (born November 28, 1964) is an Aam Aadmi Party politician from Punjab. Currently, he represents the Ludhiana Central Assembly constituency.[1][2][3]

Political career
In 2022, he won the Ludhiana Central on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket, he defeated Surinder Kumar Dawar of Congress and Gurdev Sharma Debi of BJP.[4][5] The Aam Aadmi Party gained a strong 79% majority in the sixteenth Punjab Legislative Assembly by winning 92 out of 117 seats in the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly election. MP Bhagwant Mann was sworn in as Chief Minister on 16 March 2022.[6]

Controversies
2000 CIA Arrest in Murder Case
In September 2000, Ashok Parashar Pappi, then a Youth Congress leader, was arrested by the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) in connection with the Dabbu murder case. He was charged under Sections 201 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly disposing of a body and criminal conspiracy.[11]
2023 Gambling Case Involving Nephew
In 2023, the Ludhiana police’s CIA staff arrested Parashar’s nephew, Deep Sharma alias Deepu, along with 17 others, for allegedly operating a gambling racket in Field Gunj, Ludhiana. ₹6.1 lakh was recovered from the site. Sharma was booked under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code.[12]
