Playing career
Suniev originally played as a youth within CSKA Moscow before moving to North America to continue his development as a junior. Following his second season with the Penticton Vees in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), Suniev was selected in the third-round, 80th overall, by the Calgary Flames in the 2023 NHL entry draft.
Suniev committed to the University of Massachusetts-Amherst of the Hockey East beginning as a freshman in the 2023–24 season.
After a standout sophomore season in 2024–25, in which he placed second on the Minutemen in scoring with 20 goals and 38 points through 35 appearances.[2] Suniev opted to conclude his collegiate career in signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the Calgary Flames on 2 April 2025.[3] Joining the Flames roster, Suniev was inserted into the lineup and made his NHL debut in the final regular season game, helping Calgary to a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on 17 April 2025.[4]
