Biography

Born in Tasmania, Lea grew up in Queensland and Papua New Guinea, moving to San Diego to study at California State University.[1] She completed a PhD titled "The way into stone; To dwell in possibility: Social roles of the poet" at University of Queensland (UQ) in 2005[2] and as of 2021 is a full professor and head of the School of Communication and Arts at UQ.[3]

She was a member of the Literature Board of the Australia Council from 2005 to 2008.[4]

She was Poetry Editor of Meanjin from 2006 to 2023.[5]

Lea appeared in two events at the 2017 Brisbane Writers Festival in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.[6]
