History

In 1999, during the dot-com bubble, the company was launched as FaucetDirect by Christian Friedland and David Boctor, former classmates at California State University, Chico.[3]

As of 2006, Friedland owned 52% of the company.[4] He turned down venture capital and instead sold the company to Ferguson plc, then called Wolseley UK, for $35 million.[4] Woseley bought the Build.com domain name from David Berman and rebranded the company as Build.com in April 2010.[4]

In October 2015, Build.com / Ferguson Enterprises acquired Living Direct.[5]

In late 2016, Christian Friedland left Build to focus full time on Power for Puerto Rico, a nonprofit organization raising money to buy generators for those devastated by Hurricane Maria earlier that year. [6]

The company expanded its Chico offices in September 2018 by relocating 70 employees.[1]

In 2025, the company rebranded as Ferguson Home.[7]
