Buysky District

Buysky District (Russian: Бу́йский райо́н) is an administrative^[1] and municipal^[6] district (raion), one of the twenty-four in Kostroma Oblast, Russia. It is located in the west of the oblast. The area of the district is 3,248 square kilometers (1,254 sq mi).^{[citation needed]} Its administrative center is the town of Buy (which is not administratively a part of the district).^[1] Population: 9,035 (2021 Census);^[8] 11,829 (2010 Census);^[2] 8,847 (2002 Census);^[9] 11,737 (1989 Soviet census).^[10]

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, Buysky District is one of the twenty-four in the oblast.^[1] The town of Buy serves as its administrative center, despite being incorporated separately as a town of oblast significance—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.^[1]

As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Buysky Municipal District.^[6] The town of oblast significance of Buy is incorporated separately from the district as Buy Urban Okrug.^[6]
