History
The first edition of the Campeonato Pernambucano was played in 1915, and was won by Flamengo de Recife, a defunct club.
In 1936, Tramways became undefeated state champions with a team made up of players who were paid a salary.[1] This led to significant changes in the structure of football in Pernambuco, heralding the definitive transition from amateurism to professionalism.[1] The following season, Central's defender Zago became the first player to be registered as a professional by the Pernambuco Sports Federation, marking the official start of professionalism in the state.[1]
