State Route 278, located on the western edge of Carbon Hill, is its main north–south street. It is 3 miles (5 km) north of Nelsonville.

History

Carbon Hill was laid out in 1873.^[3] Coal (a carbon-based fuel) was extensively mined there.^[3] This industry accounts for the community's name.^[4] A post office called Carbon Hill has been in operation since 1879.^[5]
