Cetobacterium ceti is a Gram-negative, and rod-shaped obligately anaerobic bacterium from the genus of Cetobacterium which has been isolated from sea mammals. Cetobacterium ceti represents a hitherto unknown line of descent peripherally associated to the fusobacteria and low G + C relatives. There is no growth of Cetobacterium ceti at 25°C or 45°C.[3][1][2][4][5]

Vitamin B12 biosynthesis
The Cetobacterium is a common gastrointestinal bacterium found in dolphins and includes two species: C. somerae and C. ceti.
A recent study, that was carried out on the common bottlenose dolphins, has shown that Cetobacterium ceti has the ability to biosynthesize vitamin B12. The vitamin is later used to synthesize haem, which is an important component of haemoglobin and myoglobin. This helps to prolong their diving time, by storing more oxygen in their muscles.[6]
