Chongqing Blues (Chinese: 日照重慶) is a 2010 Chinese drama film directed by Wang Xiaoshuai. It was selected for the main competition at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.[1]

Chongqing Blues centers on Lin Quanhai, a sea captain who returns home after a six-month voyage to learn that his 25-year-old son, Lin Bo, has been fatally shot by the police during an altercation in a supermarket. As Lin Quanhai investigates, he discovers the extent of his estrangement from his son, a consequence of his prolonged absences due to his maritime career. His search for answers takes him back to Chongqing, a city where he once lived and where Lin Bo spent his final days. There, Lin Quanhai meets individuals who were closely connected to his son, including his friends, his girlfriend Xiao Wen, and others who witnessed the events leading up to the tragedy.
Through these interactions, Lin Quanhai reconstructs the narrative of Lin Bo’s life, uncovering the emotional struggles his son faced, including feelings of abandonment and alienation. He learns that Lin Bo was involved in a heated dispute in the supermarket, which escalated into a confrontation with the police, ultimately resulting in his death. The investigation forces Lin Quanhai to confront his own role in his son’s life, particularly the impact of his absence on Lin Bo’s emotional well-being.
