The Conversion Practices Prohibition Act 2024 is an act of the Parliament of South Australia prohibiting conversion therapy.

Background
During the 2022 state election, Premier Peter Malinauskas pledged to ensure conversion therapy did not take place in the state.[1][2]
In 2024, the Government of South Australia re-committed to the pledge but said measures to ban conversion therapy were difficult due to t[2]
Provisions
The act prohibits the use of conversion practices which allege to suppress a person's sexual orientation or gender identity.[3]
Offences under the act may be punished with a fine of up to A$15,000 or a prison sentence of up to 3 years.[4]
Reception
SOGICE Survivors criticised the initial bill as it required people to have been directly affected by conversion therapy to make the report themselves.[5]
