Cyperus diandrus, the umbrella flatsedge,[2] is a species of annual sedge found in Northeastern North America, ranging from Ontario and Nebraska to Nova Scotia and Virginia.[3] It grows on shorelines in sandy, peaty and slightly brackish habitats, usually not in disturbed areas.[1]
Cyperus diandrus was first scientifically described in 1819 by botanist John Torrey based on specimens collected in salt marshes in the vicinity of New York City, including at Hoboken, New Jersey.[4]
