She was the first woman to become Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines from 1998 to 2001.^{[citation needed]} She was Governor of South Cotabato from 2001 to 2010 and from 2013 to 2019.^[2] In 2019, she was a candidate for Governor of South Cotabato in the 2019 elections.^[3]
