Love was born in Los Angeles, California, and played prep football at Fountain Valley High School in Fountain Valley, California.^[1] He attended the University of California, Los Angeles, playing football for the Bruins.^[2] As a junior, he was named a third-team All-American by Football News.^[3]

Love was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the 10th round (274th overall) of the 1985 NFL draft.^[4] He played twelve seasons in the NFL for the Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals.^[5]

He was an offensive line coach at Whittier College from 2007 to 2008.
