Dzerzhinsky District (Russian: Дзержи́нский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[5] district (raion), one of the twenty-four in Kaluga Oblast, Russia. It is located in the northern central part of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,290 square kilometers (500 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the town of Kondrovo.[2] Population: 56,470 (2021 Census);[7] 60,377 (2010 Census);[3] 61,159 (2002 Census);[8] 59,599 (1989 Soviet census).[9] The population of Kondrovo accounts for 27.9% of the district's total population.[7]

Administrative and municipal status
Administratively, the district is not divided into smaller units and has direct jurisdiction over 1 town (Kondrovo), 3 settlements of urban type, and 163 rural localities.[citation needed] Municipally, the territory of the district is incorporated as Dzerzhinsky Municipal District.[5]
