East Dubuque is a city in Jo Daviess County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,505 at the 2020 census, down from 1,704 in 2010. East Dubuque is located alongside the Mississippi River. Across the river is the city of Dubuque, Iowa. The city limits extend along the river to the Illinois-Wisconsin border.

History
East Dubuque was originally called Dunleith, and under the latter name was platted in 1853.[3] The present name comes from the city's location east of Dubuque.[4] A post office was established at Dunleith in 1854, and the post office was renamed East Dubuque in 1879.[5]
Transportation
The main roads in East Dubuque are Sinsinawa Avenue and U.S. Route 20 (Wall Street). The Julien Dubuque Bridge serves as the connection between East Dubuque and Dubuque. Illinois Route 35 serves as the primary connection between East Dubuque and Wisconsin. The East Dubuque station previously provided another transportation choice for residents of East Dubuque.
Geography
According to the 2021 census gazetteer files, East Dubuque has a total area of 2.81 square miles (7.28 km2), of which 2.74 square miles (7.10 km2) (or 97.44%) is land and 0.07 square miles (0.18 km2) (or 2.56%) is water.[6]
Like the rest of Jo Daviess County, the city is topographically a part of the Driftless Area.

As of the 2020 census[8] there were 1,505 people, 754 households, and 426 families residing in the city. The population density was 534.83 inhabitants per square mile (206.50/km2). There were 771 housing units at an average density of 273.99 per square mile (105.79/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 92.49% White, 1.26% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.27% Pacific Islander, 1.33% from other races, and 4.12% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.33% of the population.
There were 754 households, out of which 27.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.98% were married couples living together, 9.55% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.50% were non-families. 38.06% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.12% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 2.07.
The city's age distribution consisted of 22.7% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 17.4% from 25 to 44, 32% from 45 to 64, and 19.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45.8 years. For every 100 females, there were 126.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 115.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $52,500, and the median income for a family was $72,500. Males had a median income of $41,357 versus $30,607 for females. The per capita income for the city was $30,587. About 7.5% of families and 12.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.1% of those under age 18 and 3.6% of those age 65 or over.
