Fernando M. Reimers is an American academic and Professor of International Education. He serves as director of the Global Education Innovation Initiative at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and his work focuses on understanding how education systems can better prepare students for civic and economic participation and contribute to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. Reimers previously served on UNESCO's Commission on the Futures of Education.[1]

Reimers teaches courses on education policy and educational innovation. He was the founding director of the International Education Policy Master's Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. His book One Student at a Time. Leading the Global Education Movement. analyzes the careers of graduates of this program and is also available in Spanish.

Reimers' current research focuses on educational innovation and the impact of education policy, leadership, and teacher professional development on holistic child and youth development. He directs the Global Education Innovation Initiative, a cross-country research and practice collaborative he founded. The collaborative's main focus is education.

Reimers has authored a series of children's books on values and competencies for living in a diverse and interdependent world, which have been published in eleven languages. He co-authored a children's book promoting ecological awareness titled The Voices of the Trees which is also available in Portuguese and Spanish.

Reimers has been on the Harvard University faculty since 1998. Prior to that position, he worked at the Central University of Venezuela, the Harvard Institute for International Development, and the World Bank. He earned doctoral and master's degrees in education at Harvard University and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at the Central University of Venezuela. Reimers has received an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Emerson College, a Centennial Medal Award from the Institute of International Education, and a Global Citizen Award from the Committee on Teaching About the United Nations (CTAUN). He was the CJ Koh Visiting Professor at the National Institute of Education in Singapore, and is a member of the National Academy of Education, the International Academy of Education, and the Council of Foreign Relations.
