Flavobacterium flabelliforme is a psychrotolerant bacterium. It has been found in an abandoned bird nest on James Ross Island in Antarctica.[1][2][3][4] The bacterium's specific epithet is derived from the Latin flabellum, meaning fan, in reference to how its colonies are shaped like fans.[1]
Members of the Flavobacterium genus can be found in water, soil, or milk.[5][6] They are known to break down casein[7] and digest polysaccharides.[8] The yellow color is prevalent in the Flavobacterium genus.[9]
