Legislative passage
The act was the first law in a series across multiple provinces relating to interprovincial trade in Canada.[1]
Provisions
Goods, services and licensed professionals from another province or territory are treated as if they were manufactured in Nova Scotia, assuming the other province has equivalent regulation treating goods, services and licensed professionals from Nova Scotia.[2][3][4]
The act ends provincial exemptions from Canadian Free Trade Agreement which limit interprovincial trade.[3]
Reception
The legislation was supported by the Leader of the Opposition and leader of the provincial New Democratic Party, Claudia Chender, describing it as an important first step.[5]
The economist Trevor Tombe praised the legislation, saying "No province has ever proposed anything remotely close to this level of ambition."[6]
