George Kay Kramer is an American philatelist who signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 2005.[1]
George Jay Kramer is not only notable for signing the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 2005, but he is also one of America's most accomplished philatelists. His accolades include multiple prestigious awards: he received the Distinguished Philatelist Award from the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society in 1999, the Mortimer L. Neinken Medal in 2007, and the John N. Luff Award from the American Philatelic Society in 2013. In 2018, he was honored with the Alfred F. Lichtenstein Memorial Award for Distinguished Service to Philately, recognizing his exceptional contributions across leadership, research, exhibiting, and organizational service. Kramer’s influence extends to exhibitions as well; his multi-frame displays have earned him top awards globally. He won the Champions of Champions title three separate times—in 1986 (“Wells Fargo”), 1993 (“Across the Continent”), and 2003 (“U.S. Domestic Mails 1776–1869”). These exhibits also garnered international acclaim, including the Grand Prix National at Pacific 97, a Grand Prix in Australia (2005), and a Grand Prix d’Honneur in Brazil (2013). Kramer has also made significant philanthropic contributions to philatelic institutions. He donated $100,000 to support the expansion of the Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum—helping establish the William H. Gross Stamp Gallery—and another $100,000 to the American Philatelic Society to create the George & Carole Kramer Gallery at the American Philatelic Center.[2][3][4]
