Glassbox was founded in 2010 by Yoav Schreiber, Yaron Gueta, and Hanan Blumstein in Israel. By October 2018, the company had raised US$32.5 million in funding, including investment from Updata Partners, which received two seats on the company’s board.[4]
In February 2019, TechCrunch reported that several iOS apps were using Glassbox’s analytics tools to record user interactions without explicit disclosure, raising privacy concerns about session-replay software across the mobile app industry.[5] Certain travel and retail applications incorporated Glassbox to help developers understand customer behavior but did not clearly inform users that their taps, swipes, and screens could be recorded. Privacy experts said that while the practice was not inherently malicious, it highlighted the lack of transparency around data collection within mobile analytics tools.
Following the report, Apple reminded developers that any app recording screen activity must explicitly inform users and obtain consent. Apps failing to remove or properly disclose such code risked removal from the App Store. Glassbox stated its technology was designed to help organizations improve digital experiences and that customer contracts required compliance with privacy regulations and Apple’s policies.[6]
In April 2020, Glassbox raised US$40 million in Series C funding to expand its analytics capabilities.[7] Later that year, the company acquired UK-based analytics firm SessionCam to accelerate its expansion in Europe.[8]
In June 2021, Glassbox went public on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, raising approximately $100 million at a valuation of $500 million.[9]
In 2024, Glassbox was acquired by the private equity firm Alicorn, becoming privately held once again.[10]
