Godwin Eric Igwebuike (born September 10, 1994) is an American former professional football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for six years. He played college football for the Northwestern Wildcats. Igwebuike was an undrafted free agent in 2018. He announced his retirement in 2024 after spending the offseason in free agency.[1]

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Igwebuike was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2018.[5] At this point in his career, he played safety. He was waived on September 1, 2018, and was signed to the practice squad the next day.[6][7] He was promoted to the active roster on November 16, 2018.[8] He was waived on November 26, 2018.[9]

San Francisco 49ers

On November 27, 2018, Igwebuike was claimed off waivers by the San Francisco 49ers.[10] He was waived on April 29, 2019.[11]

Philadelphia Eagles

Igwebuike was claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Eagles on April 30, 2019.[12] He was waived on August 2, 2019.[13]

New York Jets

On August 4, 2019, Igwebuike was claimed off waivers by the New York Jets.[14] He was waived on August 31, 2019.[15]

Seattle Dragons

Igwebuike was selected by the Seattle Dragons in the 2020 XFL Supplemental Draft on November 22, 2019. He had his contract terminated when the league suspended operations on April 10, 2020.[16]

Detroit Lions

On January 14, 2021, Igwebuike signed a reserve/futures contract with the Detroit Lions.[17] The Lions converted him to running back two weeks before training camp, and he made the active roster to start the season.[18] He scored his first career touchdown on a 42-yard run on November 14, 2021, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.[19]

On August 30, 2022, Igwebuike was waived by the Lions.[20]

Seattle Seahawks

On September 28, 2022, Igwebuike was signed to the Seattle Seahawks practice squad.[21] On December 26, 2022, Igwebuike was signed to the Seattle Seahawks active roster.[22]

Atlanta Falcons

On July 30, 2023, Igwebuike signed with the Atlanta Falcons.[23] He was waived on August 29, 2023, and re-signed to the practice squad.[24][25] He was promoted to the active roster on September 9, 2023.[26] He was waived on September 11 and re-signed to the practice squad.[27][28]

Pittsburgh Steelers

On September 20, 2023, Igwebuike was signed by the Steelers off the Falcons practice squad.[29]

Retirement

On September 10, 2024, Igwebuike announced his retirement from the NFL via Instagram.[1]

Personal life

Igwebuike is married to Ari Igwebuike.[30] Igwebuike is a Christian.[31][32] His first cousin once removed is former NFL kicker Donald Igwebuike.[33] Igwebuike is also a musician and has released a Christian single called "Long Nights".[31] He also helps to host the Favor Farms Festival, a Christian music festival in his hometown.[31][32]
