Body of water in New York City From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Remove ads

Gravesend Bay is an estuary that is connected to the Hudson River, Coney Island Creek, New York Bay, and Sheepshead Bay. It is contained within the New York–New Jersey Harbor Estuary and is positioned just southwest of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge which spans The Narrows strait. It is often used as a place for ships to anchor because of the safety its partially enclosed space provides to boats.[1] The bay is a migratory route for bottlenose dolphins and some species of whales.[2] In the early 20th century the bay was home to an internationally known yacht racing club.[3]
