Hanifa Nabukeera (born 15 November 1984), also known as Nabukeera Hanifa Hussein, is a Ugandan lawyer, businesswoman and politician. She is the incumbent Member of Parliament representing Mukono District as the Woman MP in the 11th Parliament of Uganda. She is affiliated with the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) and serves in the Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Minister for Human Rights.[1]

Early life and education
Nabukeera was born in Mukono District, Central Region of Uganda, on 15 November 1984.[1] She trained as a lawyer and also engaged in business prior to joining active politics.[2]
Political career
Nabukeera first contested for elective office in the 2011 general elections, running for the Mukono North parliamentary seat. She lost to Ronald Kibuule and later filed an election petition, which was dismissed by the High Court.[3]
In 2016, she contested for the Mukono District Woman MP seat but was defeated by Peace Kusasira Kanyesigye Mubiru. She again challenged the outcome, citing electoral irregularities and voter bribery, but her petition was dismissed by court.[4]
In the 2021 general elections, Nabukeera, running under the National Unity Platform, defeated the incumbent Peace Kusasira and was elected as the Mukono District Woman Member of Parliament.[5]

Parliamentary work
In parliament, Nabukeera was appointed Shadow Minister for Human Rights in the Shadow Cabinet of the 11th Parliament.[6]
She is known for her advocacy on issues of healthcare, land rights, and support for fishing communities in Mukono. In July 2021, she donated a new ambulance to Mukono General Hospital to aid patient referrals during the COVID-19 pandemic.[7]
2026 elections
Ahead of the 2026 general elections, Nabukeera faces stiff competition both within her own party and from rival candidates. The Mukono Woman MP race has attracted at least five contenders, including three from NUP and two from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). Analysts have raised concerns that internal splits within NUP could weaken her re-election bid.[8]
