The genus Hydromorphus is endemic to Central America.[1]

Two species are recognized as being valid.[1]
- Hydromorphus concolor W. Peters, 1859 - Costa Rica water snake
- Hydromorphus dunni Slevin, 1942 - Dunn's water snake
Etymology
The specific name, dunni, is in honor of American herpetologist Emmett Reid Dunn.[2]
