Ileksky District

Ileksky District (Russian: Иле́кский райо́н; Kazakh: Елек ауданы, Elek aýdany) is an administrative^[1] and municipal^[4] district (raion), one of the thirty-five in Orenburg Oblast, Russia. It is located in the southwest of the oblast. The area of the district is 3,700 square kilometers (1,400 sq mi).^{[citation needed]} Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Ilek.^[2] Population: 25,150 (2010 Census);^[3] 28,793 (2002 Census);^[6] 28,533 (1989 Soviet census).^[7] The population of Ilek accounts for 38.8% of the district's total population.^[3]

Paleontology

Fossils of temnospondyls were found in the Lower Triassic (Olenekian) deposits of Ileksky District. These extinct taxa are Parotosuchus, Rhytidosteus, Inflectosaurus, Batrachosuchoides, Wetlugasaurus, Benthosuchus and Trematotegmen.^[8]
