The Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) is an educational organization founded in 2002 in Aarhus, Denmark, by Mads Soegaard and Rikke Friis Dam.[1] It provides open access literature[2] and self-paced online courses[3] in user experience (UX), human–computer interaction (HCI), interaction design, usability, and related fields.
Mission
The Foundation's stated mission is to "democratize education by making world-class educational materials free for anyone, anywhere".[4][5]
Programs and resources
IxDF offers nearly 40 online, self-paced courses covering topics such as user experience design, user interface design, design thinking, information architecture, and accessibility.[3] While not accredited, its curriculum is structured at the graduate level and students can earn industry-recognized certificates.[6]
The organization also hosts IxDF Master Classes, live online sessions with figures such as Don Norman.[7]
A centerpiece of Interaction Design Foundation are their peer reviewed Encyclopedia of Human-Computer Interaction, which currently holds 40+ textbooks written by 100+ leading designers and professors as well as commentaries and HD video interviews shot around the world.[2][8][9][10][11][12][13]

Share the Knowledge Tour
In June 2013, the Interaction Design Foundation launched a 4 year 35,000 mile bike tour, named "Share the Knowledge Tour",[16] to raise awareness of the rising cost of education - with weekly events on university campuses.[17][18]

Financial sponsors include the German software company SAP. Authors include Harvard professor Clayton Christensen[19][20] and New York Times bestselling author, Robert Spence[21] who invented the "magnifying glass" visualization that is familiar to anyone with an iPhone or iMac, and Stu Card[21] who performed the research that led to the computer mouse's commercial introduction by Xerox.
Recognition
The IxDF has been profiled internationally. In 2013, Forbes called it “the Danish NGO that’s taking open-source education global,” highlighting its aim to deliver “Ivy League level education in UX, product design, or human–computer interaction”.[4]
