Around one hundred leaders from all around Pakistan attended a dinner organized by Aleem Khan, where it was revealed that the IPP had been formed.[3] The party's leader, Jahangir Tareen, spoke about his goals on the occasion, to "fulfill the teachings of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Fatima Jinnah, Allama Iqbal", ending political and social divisions, and bringing political and economic reforms.[4][5][6]

On 5 October 2023, the ECP accepted the application and issued a notification of the IPP's registration.[8] On 26 October, the party was allotted the eagle as their electoral symbol.[9]
On 12 February 2024, Jahangir Tareen resigned from the party after losing in General Election 2024.
