Career
Urbanovic received a BFA from the Maryland Institute of Art.[4] Her career started in graphic design and illustration, but realized she would prefer to illustrate children's literature. She studied writing under the mentorship of author Jane Resh Thomas in 1997 and after submitting her work to "Highlights" magazine, received her first trade illustration job on Spaghetti Eddie.[5] Before she started her children's literature career, she contributed to several anthologies and comics series regarding LGBT themes and issues in the 1980s and 1990s.[6] She is also credited as the Artist-In-Residence at the Molesworth Institute,[7] a source of library humor and information.
