Svantesson started his footballing career in Levene/Skogslund IF and Vara SK, two football clubs based in Vara, Sweden, the latter competing in Division 4.[4] In December 2011 he was signed to Gefle IF, moving to Gävle after the new year.[5][6]

He suffered two consecutive injuries during the 2012 season, with a sprain in April followed by a rough tackle a few months later. Svantesson currently works at Norron Asset Management, where he is the portfolio manager of the Sustainable Equity strategy.[9]
