John W. Colloton (born 1931 in Mason City, Iowa) is the former director and CEO of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from 1971 to 1993. In 1979, he was elected chairman of the National Council of Teaching Hospitals.[1] During his tenure as CEO at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Colloton initiated a program that would become known as "Project Art". In 1975, Project Art began installing art within the hospital's hallways to humanize the building and "expand the healing mission". [2] Colloton assumed the title of director emeritus at the University of Iowa Hospitals in 2001.

Awards and Recognition
In 2002, Colloton received the Horatio Alger Award for Distinguished Americans.[3] In 2013, the University of Iowa awarded him an honorary degree for his service and leadership in medicine.[1] In 2016, he was presented the Hancher-Finkbine Alumni Medallion for his dedication to the university and its teaching hospital.[4]
His son, Steven Colloton, serves as the Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He was nominated by President George W. Bush in 2003. His daughter, Ann Colloton, is a former competitive swimmer.
