Jonathan "Jon" Patterson is an American politician representing the 30th district in the Missouri House of Representatives.[1] He began his tenure in the House in 2019, and was elected Missouri Speaker of the House in 2025.[2]

Career

Patterson earned his bachelor's and medical degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. After medical school, Patterson completed his surgical residency at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City. He practiced general surgery in eastern Jackson county from 2011 to 2022.[3][4]

Missouri House of Representatives

Patterson has served in the Missouri House of Representatives since 2019. In 2024, he was nominated for the role of Speaker of the House in the 2025 session. He faced challenger Justin Sparks, who received only 10 votes to Patterson's 152. Patterson is the first Asian American elected to Missouri's Speaker of the House.[2]

In May 2025, Patterson praised the legislature for passing measures to reverse the abortion amendment and paid sick leave provisions passed by a majority of Missouri voters in the previous year.[5]
