Background and recording

The album was recorded in Badlands Recording, Denver, Colorado. In an interview with New Noise Magazine, Chris Barnes stated that he wrote the lyrics to the album collaboratively with Jack Owen, with the lyrical themes centred around violence and revenge leading to the album title. Barnes said, "It was really cool to challenge myself and make this really collaborative. Then when I was going back through and reading all the lyrics, I realized it was a revenge story: man against man, man against himself, man against nature. That was an interesting idea for me, so that’s where the title came from. I didn’t really plan on that, but that’s where the lyrics took me. I chose the title Killing For Revenge after we completed writing and noticed that all the lyrics and storylines had a common theme of revenge. Revenge by human or revenge by nature. The album title describes the flow of the stories within the lyrics perfectly."[2][3]
