Lagenlook
Fashion style From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lagenlook is a style of layered clothing based on various new romantic and boho-chic influences, primarily but not exclusively worn by women.[1] It is an unadapted borrowing or loanword from German, and means "layered look."[2] It was particularly popular in the early 2010s, but has been a style of note since at least the 1960s.[3] Although it displays clear gothic fashion influences, it is not considered a gothic style. German media and cultural historian Ricarda Strobel classifies it as a look of the German 1990s.[4] The style was also echoed in a photographic exhibition in Austria in 2020 by Romana Hagyo and Silke Maier-Gamauf, "Abrieb und Lagenlook."[5] University of Seigen professor of media and culture studies Maren Lickhardt noted it in the Spring/Summer 2022 Dolce & Gabbana runway show, echoing Y2K fashion.[6] Two fashion journalists, Gudrun Allstädt and Elke Dieterich, cited a return of Lagenlook in 2017 in the German clothing magazine Textilwirtschaft, an industry publication with a broader readership similar to Women's Wear Daily.[7][8][9][10]
