Ban Midou

Voiced by: Nobutoshi Canna,[1] Naomi Shindou (child)[2] (Japanese); Rich McDonald (episodes 1–5),[3] Jason Liebrecht (episode 6 onwards)[4] (English)

Ban Midou (美堂蛮, Midō Ban) partners with Ginji Amano in their retrieval business. His name combines his mother's surname "Midou" and "Ban", derived from the Japanese word "Savage" (野蛮, Yaban), reflecting his unruly nature. Known as "The Man with the Evil Eye" (邪眼の男, Jagan no otoko) and "The Genius of Battles", he is one-quarter German and the grandson of the "Last Witch of the 20th Century". A familial connection to Himiko Kudou is revealed later.

Ban wields the Evil Eye (邪眼, Jagan), inducing minute-long illusions, though overuse risks erasing his existence. His Snakebite ability grants immense strength, enhanced by the power of Asclepius, allowing feats like crushing steel or collapsing buildings. He later transcends these limits, developing techniques like "Snake Kill". A strategic thinker, he balances ruthless efficiency with loyalty to allies.

Anime News Network described the Jagan's design as a "horrifying nightmare". The Tokyopop's English localization of Ban Midou's dialogue has been noted for its gangster-like phrasing.[5]

Ginji Amano

Voiced by: Showtaro Morikubo,[1] Ryōko Shiraishi (child)[2] (Japanese); J. Shannon Weaver[3] (English)

Ginji Amano (天野銀次, Amano Ginji) partners with Ban Midou in their retrieval business. Formerly known as the fearsome Lightning Emperor (雷帝, Raitei), he once led the VOLTS gang that ruled Infinity Fortress. His electrical abilities grant him regenerative powers, electromagnetic properties, and nearly limitless energy when transformed into his Lightning Emperor state.

Normally cheerful and naive, Ginji struggles with this violent alternate persona that emerges during extreme stress. The transformation first occurred in childhood when witnessing a friend's injury, creating a protective but destructive alter ego. As Lightning Emperor, he becomes merciless, though Ginji himself abhors violence. His powers draw directly from Infinity Fortress's energy currents, making him unpredictable to the Babylon City authorities.

It is later discovered that his mother created this reality following his death in the original world. His existence remains unrecorded in Babylon City's archives, disrupting their prophecies. After fulfilling his purpose by defeating the Voodoo King, his Lightning Emperor persona disappears permanently. Throughout his journey, Ginji maintains an optimistic nature despite his traumatic past, valuing friendship above all else.

Hevn

Voiced by: Rio Natsuki[1] (Japanese); Ellie McBride[3] (English)

Hevn (ヘヴン, Hevun) operates as a Negotiator (仲介屋, chūkaiya), specializing in arranging high-risk retrieval operations between clients and specialists like the GetBackers. Based at Honky Tonk café, she handles sensitive cases with strict confidentiality while demonstrating technical expertise from her previous scientific background. Though capable in martial arts, she prefers mediation over direct combat.

Professional yet temperamental, Hevn frequently clashes with Ban over payments but maintains genuine concern for his and Ginji's safety. She works effectively with Shido and tolerates Akabane's eccentricities for his professional skills. Her past includes a complex relationship with Masaki Kurusu that resurfaces during later events. As a central figure in the retrieval community, Hevn balances professional connections with personal bonds, serving as both a coordinator and emotional support for fellow specialists.

Paul Wan

Voiced by: Yasunori Matsumoto[1] (Japanese); Corey Gagne[3] (English)

Paul Wan (王波児, Wan Pōru) (Chinese: 王波児; pinyin: Wáng Bōér) operates Honky Tonk café while mentoring younger retrievers like the GetBackers. Despite his prematurely aged appearance at thirty-five, his blindness belies sharp perception and vast underworld connections. As Ban's godfather and co-founder of the original GetBackers with Der Kaiser, he personally named Ban after the infant kicked him during their first meeting.

A former prodigy known as the Gale Emperor, Paul's wind-based abilities have waned with age. His stigma-sealed memories of Babylon City become pivotal in later events. Though primarily running his café, he emerges during crucial moments—most notably when preparing Ban and Ginji for their final confrontation in Infinity Fortress. His Chinese heritage and early years remain largely undocumented, though fragments suggest a streetwise youth in Shinjuku where he first encountered Der Kaiser.

Natsumi Mizuki

Voiced by: Otoha[1] (Japanese); Kelly Dealyn[3] (English)

Natsumi Mizuki (水木夏み, Mizuki Natsumi) is a 16-year-old high school student and part-time waitress at Honky Tonk café. She first meets Ban and Ginji as their client but later becomes their close friend, often supporting their endeavors. In the manga, she is the daughter of a virus researcher who hires the GetBackers to retrieve her dog Lucky, inadvertently uncovering a broader conspiracy. The anime highlights her cheerful personality and occasional comedic traits, such as her makeshift detective outfit, while also showcasing her emotional maturity during tense situations. Though not a professional retriever, she occasionally assists with cases.

Himiko Kudou

Voiced by: Natsuko Kuwatani[1] (Japanese); Deanna Shoemaker[3] (English)

Himiko Kudou (工藤卑弥呼, Kudō Himiko), known professionally as "Lady Poison", is a skilled Transporter who specializes in poison-based perfumes. Initially appearing as an antagonist to the GetBackers, her complex relationship with Ban stems from her brother Yamato's death, which she mistakenly blames on him. Despite their fraught history, they frequently collaborate on missions, with Ban treating her like a younger sister.

Himiko and her late brother developed approximately 200 poison perfumes, though she typically carries only seven at a time. These scents serve as catalysts for various magical effects, including flame generation, mind control, and accelerated healing. The limitation to seven perfumes reflects the maximum number of spells a practitioner can maintain simultaneously.

Later revelations establish her as Ban's blood relative through their shared lineage to the Witch Queen. By the series' conclusion, she continues working as a Transporter, now sporting shorter hair, and becomes involved in a mission connected to Ban's mother. Throughout the story, Himiko struggles to reconcile her professional respect for Ban with her personal grief over her brother's death.

Kazuki Fuuchouin

Voiced by: Soichiro Hoshi,[1] Yumiko Kobayashi (child)[2] (Japanese); Matt Hislope,[6] Justin Kee (child)Ep. 19 credits (English)

Kazuki Fuuchouin (風鳥院花月, Fūchōin Kazuki) is the last master of the Fuuchouin Thread Arts, a combat style using razor-sharp koto strings controlled through finger vibrations. These versatile strings can cut through nearly any material or serve as listening devices, stored in hair ornaments for quick access. As a former member of the Volts' Four Kings, he maintains close ties with Ginji despite his clan's destruction by the rival Kokuchouin.

Kazuki presents as notably androgynous among male characters. While cordial with Ban, their relationship remains distant compared to his strong bond with Ginji. His complex history includes a friendship with former enemy Juubei Kakei. The series ultimately reveals his abilities, like others', stem from the simulated nature of their reality centered around Infinity Fortress.

Shido Fuyuki

Voiced by: Takanori Hoshino[1] (Japanese); Omar Gallaga[3] (English)

Shido Fuyuki (冬木士度, Fuyuki Shido), called the Beastmaster, communicates with animals as equals. A former member of VOLTS' Four Kings, he later operates a retrieval service and reconciles with Ginji Amano, whom he holds in high regard. Though outwardly reserved, he fiercely protects his animal companions and Madoka Otowa, with whom he shares a strong bond. As guardian of Infinity Fortress's East Gates alongside Masaki Kurusu, he possesses detailed knowledge of Masaki's activities. His Chimera form functions as one of three keys to Babylon City, sealed by Ban's grandmother. Shido's "Awakening" ability unlocks latent potential in others, such as restoring Ginji's Lightning Emperor powers. The last of the Fuyuki Clan, he maintains a rivalry with Ban Midou.

Kuroudo Akabane

Voiced by: Nobuo Tobita[1] (Japanese); Shannon McCormick[3] (English)

Kuroudo Akabane (赤羽蔵人, Akabane Kurōdo), known as "Dr. Jackal", is a skilled Transporter who frequently clashes with the GetBackers. Recognizable by his signature hat, he fights using 108 surgical scalpels stored within his body, which he deploys with deadly precision. A former battlefield surgeon, his transition to killing began after failing to save a patient. He operates solely for personal amusement, constantly testing his own limits. His weapons appear as physical blades in the manga and energy constructs in the anime. References hint at his past connections to Babylon City's upper levels.

Ryuudo Hishiki

Voiced by: Tomoyuki Shimura [ja][1]

Ryuudou Hishiki (菱木竜童, Hishiki Ryūdō), known as "Undead," is a nearly indestructible Protector and former professional wrestler. After their first encounter, the GetBackers avoid direct confrontations with him, though their work leads to repeated clashes, particularly with Ginji. While the manga depicts him speaking normally and features him across multiple missions, the anime reduces his role, omitting several of his story arcs and having him communicate mostly through growls. His wrestling background contributes to his formidable resilience in battle.

Yamato Kudou

Voiced by: Keiji Fujiwara[1] (Japanese); Clayton KjosEp. 5 credits (English)

Yamato Kudou (工藤邪馬人, Kudō Yamato) is Himiko's late adoptive brother and fellow Voodoo Child (renamed Last Child in the anime). He raised her from infancy and, before succumbing to his curse, made Ban vow to protect her. When the curse overwhelmed him, Yamato begged Ban to kill him—a decision that still haunts Ban. The anime depicts him confessing his failure to break the curse, with Ban inheriting his lighter and adopting smoking afterward. Primarily appearing in flashbacks, the manga briefly revives him twice: first as a ghost, then to free Himiko from Kagami's control. His withheld knowledge about their curse inadvertently endangered Himiko.

Madoka Otowa

Voiced by: Yuki Matsuoka[1] (Japanese); Kelsey KlingEp. 6 credits (English)

Madoka Otowa (音羽マドカ, Otowa Madoka) is a blind musical prodigy and virtuoso violinist with extraordinary auditory abilities. She employs the GetBackers to retrieve her stolen Stradivarius violin, assisted by her loyal guide dog Mozart who serves as both companion and protector. After developing a relationship with Shido, she becomes a target of the Kiryudo clan—insect-communicating rivals of Shido's people—who abduct her in an attempt to trade her for the Chimera.

Miroku siblings

Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki[2] (Japanese); Michael Mergen[7] (English) (Natsuhiko)
Voiced by: Akiko Kimura [ja][2] (Japanese); Michael Mergen[7] (English) (Yukihiko)

The Miroku 7 are seven martial artist siblings who share one body that physically transforms depending on which personality is active. Each specializes in different weapons, primarily swords and knives. Led by Natsuhiko (夏彦), their strongest member is Yukihiko (雪彦), with other siblings being Hikage (緋影), Ukyou (右狂), Tsubaki (椿), Tokisada (時貞), and Kirara (奇羅々)—their only female manifestation. They first appear guarding the Venus de Milo's arms alongside Akabane. Though Natsuhiko claims friendship with Ban, he and five siblings seek revenge for their sister Eris' death.

The Lost Time arc reveals Natsuhiko and Ban were childhood friends in Germany. Ban killed Eris in self-defense when she transformed into a monster after being tricked by shamans, but never explains this to the siblings. The Miroku 7 delay their destined merger into Yukihiko's personality to avenge Eris. The anime reduces them to just Natsuhiko and Yukihiko without explaining their motives.

Maria Noches

Voiced by: Michiko Neya (drama CD)[8]

Maria Noches (マリーア・ノーチェス, Marīa Nōchesu) is the Witch Queen's top disciple and a master occultist who runs a fortune-telling shop in Shinjuku. Though magically maintaining the appearance of a woman in her late twenties, she is actually 99 years old. The Witch Queen entrusted the young Ban to her care after his mother rejected him, and though Ban eventually ran away, Maria still considers him like a son. Known as "the Death Knell" for her formidable power as the Witch Queen's right hand, she maintains a cheerful demeanor with a dark sense of humor. She aids Ban against Lucifer during the Divine Design arc and shows particular fondness for Ginji's childlike form. A skilled flamenco dancer, she shares hinted romantic chemistry with Lucifer before his death.

MakubeX

Voiced by: Mitsuki Saiga[9] (Japanese); Andrea Skola (first voice),[3] Scott Yi (second voice),Ep. 6 credits John Minnich (third voice)[10] (English)

MakubeX (間久部X, Makube Ekkusu) is a 14-year-old hacker prodigy and former member of VOLTS' Four Kings. Found as a child with only the surname "Makube", the "X" represents his unknown given name. After Ginji's departure from Infinity Fortress, he becomes its dictatorial ruler. His skills surpass even his mentor Gen, and he commands subordinates including Sakura Kakei and Haruki Emishi. During the I.L. arc, he possesses data for atomic bomb production. The Lost Time arc reveals his latent ability to manipulate Infinity Fortress' virtual space without computers, discovering his nature as part of the fortress' programming. MakubeX attempts to sacrifice himself to destroy the Archive—Infinity Fortress's governing AI—but Ban intervenes to prevent this. After gaining the ability to leave the fortress, he is last seen living an ordinary life with Sakura.

Juubei Kakei

Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu,[9] Romi Park (child)[2] (Japanese); Brent Werzner,[11] Marcos Lara (child)Ep. 19 credits (English)

Juubei of the Flying Needles (飛針の十兵衛, Tobari no Jūbei) is a skilled fighter who wields specialized acupuncture needles with various effects. As heir to a clan that served the Fuuchouins for generations, he grew up protecting Kazuki Fuuchouin. In Infinity Fortress, he served as Kazuki's second-in-command in VOLTS. After the group disbanded, he supported MakubeX's rule until confronting Kazuki during the I.L. Retrieval arc, where he lost his eyesight before reconciling. His sight later returns during the Lost Time arc, where he helps restrain Ginji's Raitei form. Alongside his sister Sakura and Toshiki Uryuu, he defends the Beltline gate while Kazuki confronts the Dark Fuuchouin clan. Though Yohan temporarily removes his heart, Kazuki ultimately saves him while resolving the clan conflict.

Haruki Emishi

Voiced by: Mitsuaki Madono[9] (Japanese); Judson Jones[11] (English)

Haruki Emishi (笑師春樹, Emishi Haruki), known as the "Fresh Blood Joker", is a former VOLTS member recognized for his combat skills and distinctive laughter during battle. His primary weapon is a unique "Dragon's Hair" whip crafted from specially-treated women's hair, featuring dual lengths that enable techniques like "Sandstorm" and "Winds of Destruction". As the last male warrior descendant of Loulan, his blood possesses combustible properties when exposed to oxygen in sufficient quantities. After VOLTS disbanded, he became one of MakubeX's Four Kings. Emishi shares a notable friendship with Shido, who once aided his starving village in Infinity Fortress. This compassionate act contrasted sharply with Shido's fearsome reputation as the Beastmaster.

Sakura Kakei

Voiced by: Yukiko Iwai[2] (Japanese); Christa Kimlicko-Jones[11] (English)

Sakura Kakei (筧 朔羅, Kakei Sakura), Juubei Kakei's older sister, is MakubeX's most devoted follower. After VOLTS disbanded, she remained in Infinity Fortress to support his rule without knowing his true motives. Skilled in combat, she employs a specialized cloth technique inherited through her family's matrilineal line. Often assisting with MakubeX's computer systems, she displays unwavering loyalty. While their relationship carries romantic undertones, it remains unconfirmed. Sakura's steadfast dedication persists throughout their shared endeavors in the fortress.

Gensui Radou

Voiced by: Masaharu Satou[2] (Japanese); Greg GroshEp. 14 credits (English)

Gensui Radō (螺堂 源水, Radō Gensui), commonly called Gen, operates a pharmacy in Infinity Fortress with his androgynous granddaughter. Though presenting himself as a simple pharmacist, he possesses extensive knowledge of the Fortress' structure. He raised and educated MakubeX before the youth's turn to tyranny. Kazuki later exposes Gen as the Fortress' chief architect and former Brain Trust member. After leaving the organization, he atoned by running his pharmacy and aiding those opposing MakubeX. Though initially estranged from his protege, they reconcile after the I.L. incident. During the Lost Time arc, he briefs Kazuki and Shido before vanishing prior to Lower Town's destruction. The anime includes him in its final arc as well.

Ren Radou

Voiced by: Yumiko Nakanishi [ja][2] (Japanese); Cassie Fitzgerald[11] (English)

Ren Radou (螺堂 レン, Radō Ren) is Gen Radou's adopted granddaughter who assists with his pharmacy operations in Infinity Fortress. After Kazuki saves her from attackers, she develops strong affection for him. Her discovery that she cannot leave the fortress leads to an existential crisis. During the Lost Time arc, she guides Kazuki and Shido before apparently perishing with Emishi's group—though Ginji's later actions seemingly revive her. The anime adaptation expands her role, having her join Masaki's faction before reconciling with Kazuki, who affirms her existence despite being an Archive construct. Her androgynous appearance frequently contrasts with Kazuki's feminine looks, serving as a recurring joke. Throughout her journey, Ren struggles with questions of identity and purpose tied to her artificial nature.

Sarai Kagenuma

Voiced by: Hideyuki Tanaka[2] (Japanese); Dan DietzEp. 47 credits (English)

Sarai Kagenuma (翳沼沙羅衣, Kagenuma Sarai) is a mysterious monk-like figure who appears before Teshimine, claiming knowledge of Infinity Fortress' secrets. Accompanied by a winged serpent, he allies with Takeru to oppose the Voodoo King. His true nature is later revealed as a living seal created to contain the Voodoo King's power. When Kagami merges the two Himikos, the Voodoo King manifests through Sarai instead. Following the Voodoo King's defeat, Sarai is finally freed from his ancient purpose. His abilities appear magical in nature, though their full extent remains unknown.

Initially exploiting Ginji's Lightning Emperor abilities to ascend the Fortress, he later exiles himself upon fearing that power. He continues monitoring Ginji's welfare, appearing sporadically at Honky Tonk, and maintains acquaintance with Paul. To reconcile with Ginji, he returns to the Fortress. He originated from Babylon City.

Brain Trust

Brain Trust (ブレイントラスト, Burein Torasuto) is a secretive collective of preeminent researchers, engineers, and anomalous entities responsible for developing the Infinity Fortress as an experimental testing ground. Among its former operatives are the disgraced tactician Gensui Radou and infiltrator Masaki Kurusu, with Ban Midou's grandmother having previously overseen its occult research division. It is later revealed that Brain Trust's origins lie outside this reality. The current world exists as a virtual construct under their "Mirror Effect" theory, utilizing the Archive as a foundational template to replicate their native dimension. Kagami's research enabled this parallel existence, fundamentally recontextualizing the nature of known events in the series.

Divine Design

Lucifer

Voiced by: Unshou Ishizuka (drama CD)[8]

Lucifer (ルシファー, Rushifā) is a powerful disciple of the Witch Queen, originally named Lukifer Pierre de' Medici. Seeking to resurrect his sacrificed daughter Angela, he attempts to create a "paradise" using Divine Design's power. Though allied with the Brain Trust, Maria believes he could have succeeded the Witch Queen had he not joined them. His abilities make him a formidable opponent, though not inherently evil. After his defeat by the GetBackers, the Professor contracts Akabane to eliminate him. Lucifer's tragic motivation and wasted potential underscore his complex nature as a fallen disciple rather than a purely villainous figure.

Sariel

Voiced by: Atsushi Kisaichi (drama CD)[8]

Sariel (サリエル, Sarieru), born Kakeru Mikimoto, is a troubled youth who becomes Lucifer's follower and leader of the "Angels". Though supposedly immune to illusions as the namesake of the most evil Archangel, Ban defeats him by exploiting a moment of self-doubt. His tragic past includes his mother's suicide and subsequent adoption by the Doumoto family, where he took the name Kakeru Doumoto (堂本 翔). Despite academic success, he remains emotionally empty, particularly after his adopted brother's death. Lucifer manipulates these vulnerabilities to recruit him. Sariel ultimately redeems himself by aiding the GetBackers, realizing his adopted mother's true grief was for herself rather than him. Following the Divine Design events, he resumes his education with renewed purpose.

Gabriel

Voiced by: Yuko Sasamoto (drama CD)[8]

Gabriel (ガブリエル, Gaburieru), originally named Mamoru Saiki (佐伯 護, Saiki Mamoru), first appears as a GetBackers client before being revealed as Lucifer's follower. As the self-proclaimed "Archangel of Truth", he gains water manipulation abilities through Divine Design. His troubled background involves neglect from his workaholic mother and relentless bullying at his prestigious school. After failing to eliminate Himiko and being defeated by Ginji, he receives encouragement that leads to his defection from Lucifer's group. Taking refuge at Honky Tonk with Rena, he issues Ginji an ultimatum to retrieve his Guardian Card by sunset to prevent his death as a traitor. His character arc highlights the vulnerable youth Lucifer preys upon and the redemptive power of compassion.

Rena Sendou / Remiel

Voiced by: Chiwa Saito (drama CD)[8]

Rena Sendō (仙洞レナ, Sendō Rena) serves as Remiel among Lucifer's followers, wielding the power to imprison souls within dolls. Following her defeat by Himiko, she abandons Lucifer's cause and becomes employed at Honky Tonk alongside Natsumi. She carries emotional scars from her father's death and sexual abuse suffered under a teacher. Under Paul's guidance at the café, she gradually overcomes her depression and improves her service skills, though remains imperfect. When Paul departs, she and Natsumi successfully maintain operations. The drama CDs rename her Ramiel but exclude her post-Divine Design activities.

Kiryudo

The Kiryudo (鬼里人キリュウド, Kiryūdo) serve as the insect-manipulating counterparts to the Maryudo (魔里人マリュウド, Maryūdo), who command beasts. Unlike their beast-controlling counterparts, the Kiryūdo possess the unique ability to permanently transform into insects. Organized into seven specialized clans under Kabuto's leadership, they wage a relentless extermination campaign against the Maryūdo, despite both factions originating from the same ancestral home in Hell Valley.

Jorougumo (女郎蜘蛛, Jorōgumo)
Voiced by: Mako Hyōdō (drama CD)[12]
She leads the Spider Clan as Tactician, employing deception through disguises. After failed schemes against the GetBackers and losing loved ones to Kabuto's betrayal, she surrenders before being killed and later revived.
Saichou Mumyouin (無明院賽蝶, Mumyōin Saichō)
Voiced by: Masaki Terasoma (drama CD)[12]
He commands the Butterfly Clan with illusion-based butterfly techniques. Ban executes him for betraying both sides and causing numerous deaths.

The remaining Kiryudo clan leaders each possess specialized abilities: Dokubachi (毒蜂) serves as the solitary physician of the Bee Clan; Juurou Kamata (鎌多十郎) operates as the Mantis Clan's deadly assassin; Semimaru Kanade (奏蝉丸) commands cicada warriors through musical manipulation; Suiha Koyanagi (湖柳水爬) demonstrates mastery over water-dwelling insect species; and Genshuu Miyama (深山幻舟) stands as the formidable warrior leading the Beetle Clan.

Three Knights/Drei Ritter

Der Kaiser's personal bodyguards comprise the Miroku 7's father Shimon and their elder siblings. The younger guards fall quickly to Paul Wan when he assumes his Gale Emperor form, but Shimon overpowers even Paul at his full strength. Through this confrontation, Paul recognizes the superiority of wisdom over brute force. Reverting to his older self, he outmaneuvers and defeats Shimon. This encounter demonstrates the guards' formidable combat abilities while highlighting Paul's strategic growth beyond mere physical prowess.

Voodooists/Shamans and allies

Voodoo King

The Voodoo King (呪術王ブードゥーキング, Būdū Kingu) is the enigmatic leader of the Voodooists and the former ruler of Babylon City. He commands Yohan, Masaki, and Kagami while seeking three "keys"—the GetBackers, Himiko, and Shido's Chimera—to reopen Babylon City's sealed gates. A strategic mastermind, he manipulates events through careful planning. His power manifests through three stigmata, enabling him to defeat multiple opponents simultaneously. He exists in duality with Sarai Kagenuma, with only one able to appear at any time. As the lord of nothingness, he stands opposed to the Lightning Emperor, the lord of existence. The Lightning Emperor emerges specifically to counter the Voodoo King's actions.

Kyoji Kagami

Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai[9] (Japanese); Joey Hood[11] (English)

Kyoji Kagami (鏡京司, Kagami Kyōji), known as "The Observer" and "Lord of the Looking Glass" (魔鏡の王), is a resident of Babylon City and a member of the Brain Trust. A master strategist with polite but ruthless demeanor, he wields mirror-based illusions and diamond-sharp fragments that inflict internal damage. First appearing during the I.L. retrieval mission, he observes and manipulates events, initially aligning with MakubeX before pursuing his own goals. Kagami becomes obsessed with Himiko after their battle, intending to use her as a key to Babylon City. Though he claims to love her, she rejects him. During the Lost Time arc, he fails to kill Hevn and loses to Ban, discovering too late that the Archive manipulated him. The Specialist executes him after he uncovers forbidden knowledge.

Masaki Kurusu

Voiced by: Hideyuki Hori[2] (Japanese); Robert KraftEp. 43 credits (English)

Masaki Kurusu (来栖 柾, Kurusu Masaki), the last member of VOLTS' Four Kings, wields light manipulation abilities that bypass external defenses to damage opponents internally, earning him the title "Flash Master" (閃光の支配者). His techniques include blinding flashes of light. Originally appearing as Hevn's former lover and a Brain Trust operative exposing their Qualia plan, his role differs in other portrayals where he infiltrates VOLTS as a spy before kidnapping MakubeX. He is a powerful light-based fighter with concealed motives.

Cursed Knights

Kaoru Ujiie and Jouya Kanou, former subordinates of Masaki Kurusu from their VOLTS days, now continue serving under him. Their palpable fear of the Voodoo King suggests lingering uncertainty about their current allegiances.

Kaoru Ujiie
Voiced by: Satsuki YukinoEp. 43 credits (Japanese); Carla WittEp. 43 credits (English)

Kaoru Ujiie (氏家 薫, Ujiie Kaoru) is a flame-wielding former VOLTS member who now serves Masaki Kurusu and the Voodoo King as "Crimson" of the Cursed Knights. She operates in partnership with Jouya Kanou, their combined abilities enhancing her fire attacks. The anime adaptation expands her backstory, depicting her as Ginji's embittered former lover who sought death against the Thunder Emperor before being convinced to abandon her vengeance. In both versions, she remains a formidable pyrokinetic combatant, though her manga counterpart lacks the romantic subplot. Her character consistently demonstrates conflicted loyalty between current and former allegiances.

Jouya Kanou
Voiced by: Kouki Miyata[2] (Japanese); Derek WadeEp. 43 credits (English)

Jouya Kanou (叶 条夜, Kanō Jōya) fights alongside Kaoru Ujiie as "Raven" of the Cursed Knights under Masaki's command. Their partnership, forged during their VOLTS days, combines his giant fan techniques with Kaoru's fire abilities for devastating attacks. Though committed to Masaki's cause, he falters when Shido challenges their loyalties. When attempting to stop the GetBackers from delivering Hevn, Jouya activates his Stigma to boost his power but cannot overcome Ban's superior combat prowess. His fighting style remains dependent on coordinated maneuvers with Kaoru, their teamwork compensating for individual limitations against stronger opponents.

Ura Fuuchouin

The Ura Fuuchouin (裏風鳥院, Ura Fūchōin) clan, wielding forbidden Black Threads, overthrew Kazuki's family to control the Fuuchouin String-style school. Based in Infinity Fortress' upper levels, they are led by Yohan Kokuchōin (黒鳥院 夜半, Kokuchōin Yohan), Kazuki's younger brother and primary rival. Yohan allies with the Voodooists and Brain Trust while commanding formidable combat skills potentially surpassing Ban's early capabilities. The clan includes his siblings Yuuri (遊利), a berserker wielding massive hammer-swords, and Maiya (舞矢), their sister. Saizou Toufuuin (東風院 祭蔵), Kazuki's childhood friend, was coerced into service through a Black Thread implant in his heart. After losing to Kazuki, Saizou removes his own heart to free Fuuga members trapped within the dark cocoon.
