History
The first Swedish minister in India, envoy Gunnar Jarring, handed over his letter of credence to the Indian Governor-General C. Rajagopalachari on 9 November 1948.[2]
In August 1956, an agreement was reached between the Swedish and Indian governments on the mutual elevation of the respective countries' legations to embassies. The diplomatic rank was thereafter changed to ambassador instead of envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary.[3]
