Mary Croughan[1] is an American epidemiologist and academic administrator serving as the provost and executive vice chancellor of the University of California, Davis since 2020.

Croughan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in community health from the University of California, Davis, and a Ph.D. in epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health.[2] Her 1987 dissertation was titled Morbidity Among Breech Infants According to Method of Delivery.[3]

Croughan researches reproductive and perinatal epidemiology.[4] She was a faculty member at UCSF School of Medicine from 1987 to 2017, during which she had faculty appointments in the departments of Family and Community Medicine, Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, and Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She co-directed the required course in epidemiology and biostatistics for 12 years, and served as vice chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine from 1998 to 2004.[5][6][4] From 2007 to 2009, she was vice chair and chair of the University of California's Systemwide Academic Senate and a Faculty Representative to the Regents of the University of California.[6] From 2010 to 2017, she served as the executive director of the Research Grants Program Office in the University of California's Office of the President.[4] From 2017 to 2020, Croughan was the vice president for Research and Economic Development at University of Nevada, Las Vegas[4][7] and a professor in its School of Public Health.[4] Croughan became the provost and executive vice chancellor of University of California, Davis in July 2020. She is a professor in the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology in the School of Veterinary Medicine .[4] Croughan succeeded Ralph J. Hexter.[8] She is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.[2]
