Mary Keir (3 March 1912 – 17 December 2024) was a Welsh supercentenarian. From 2021 to 2024, she was the oldest living person in Wales.

Biography

Keir was born in St Davids, Pembrokeshire.[1] Her father was a weaver.[1]

At age 21 she moved to Cardiff to work at Llandough Hospital.[1] She worked in the hospital during World War II and survived the Cardiff Blitz.[2][3] After meeting her husband Douglas, she moved to Llansteffan, Carmarthenshire, where she worked as a ward sister and district nurse.[4] She lived in Llansteffan independently until just before her 100th birthday.[5] On her 112th birthday she was visited by pupils from Ysgol Ffairfach and the Dinefwr Male Voice Choir.[6]

Keir lived at Awel Tywi Residential Home in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire for 12 years.[7] She enjoyed music and was a pianist.[8] She remained there until her death at the age of 112 years, 289 days.[9] She was survived by her son.[10]
