Matapa or matata is a typical Mozambican dish, prepared with young cassava,[1] pumpkin, or spinach leaves which are usually ground in a large wooden mortar and pestle[citation needed] before being cooked with peanuts, tomatoes, garlic, onion and coconut milk.[2] Many matapa dishes incorporate cashew nuts,[citation needed] crab,[3] or shrimp.[2][4] It is often served over rice.
