Max Modell is the CEO of Horizon Labs. Marla Madison-Jameson has Peter Parker meet with Modell and helps him get a job at Horizon Labs after proving himself by shutting down Sanjani Jaffrey's out-of-control machine.[1] When the Hobgoblin attacks Horizon Labs, Spider-Man saves Modell from the Hobgoblin.[2] Modell later demands that the reverbium that Jaffrey created be destroyed, to Jaffrey's chagrin.[3]
In later appearances, Modell works as an ally to Spider-Man, assisting him in technological matters and tracking down criminals such as Massacre and the Jackal.[4][5][6] Modell believes that Peter is the one who makes Spider-Man's technology, which Peter goes along with.[7]
During the "Ends of the Earth" storyline, it is revealed that Modell is openly gay, with his partner Hector Baez working as a lawyer at Horizon Labs. Baez defends Modell when J. Jonah Jameson attempts to shut down Horizon Labs.[8]
In "All-New, All-Different Marvel", Peter Parker hires Modell and Baez to run the West Coast operations of Parker Industries.[9] At the conclusion of the "Go Down Swinging" arc, Modell accepts a job application at Horizon University by Superior Octopus under the alias of Elliot Tolliver.[10]
