Meng Yuan (giant panda)

Meng Yuan (Chinese: 梦圆; lit. 'Fulfilled dream'),^[1] nicknamed Paule, is a male giant panda^[2] born on 31 August 2019, in the Berlin Zoo in Germany.^[3] Its parents are Sichuan-born^[4] Jiao Qing and Meng Meng.^[5] They are on lease from China for a provisional period of 15 years.^[6]

Meng Yuan and its twin Meng Xiang were the first giant pandas ever born in Germany.^[7] Meng Yuan is 48 minutes younger than Meng Xiang and is known for its mischievous, inquisitive nature.^[8]

In December 2023, the two pandas were sent to China.^[9] Their handover was contractually agreed to between Germany and China, but was delayed by the pandemic.^[9]
