Menoreh (Indonesian: Kereta Api Menoreh) is a train service running between Pasar Senen and Semarang Tawang, in Java, Indonesia.

Origin

The name "Menoreh" is taken from one of the mountains located in parts of Magelang Regency and Purworejo, Central Java and Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, namely the Menoreh Mountains.

History

On 21 September 2012, PT KAI launching the Menoreh train for predecessor of the Fajar and Senja Utama Semarang.^[1][2] on the enactment of new train travel chart 2015, the Menoreh train had served two trips, morning and evening schedule.^[3] But, the operation of the Menoreh I train (morning schedule from Jakarta and evening schedule from Semarang) was stopped on 4 October 2016 due to low occupancy rates, so that unused train sets were used for the operation of the Ambarawa Express Semarang Poncol–Surabaya Pasar Turi.^[4]

To reduce congestion at Pasar Senen Station, PT KAI has made changes to the travel mechanisms of several train. One significant change is the extension of the Menoreh train route to Jakarta Kota Station, which began on 29 May 2019.

As of 10 February 2021 following the enactment of new train travel chart 2021, the Menoreh train stopped at Pegaden Baru Station (bound for Jakarta Kota) to serve passengers.

After the route extension, the Menoreh train became too quiet. Finally, it returned to Pasar Senen Station starting 1 June 2023 following the enactment of new train travel chart 2023.

As of 16 January 2025, changes to the Menoreh railway infrastructure, where the modified new generation economy class trains were replaced with economy class trains. In addition, executive class trains were also added, which were used from the Kamandaka Train. Meanwhile, the modified new generation economy class trains previously used on the Menoreh train will be transferred to the Kamandaka train with the Semarang Tawang–Purwokerto–Cilacap route, in order to adjust to the enactment of new train travel chart 2025 which will be effective from 1 February 2025.
