History

The locality’s boundaries and name were gazetted on 3 April 2007. It is named after the Arrente painter Albert Namatjira.^[1] As of 2020, it has an area of 4,325.736 square kilometres (1,670.176 sq mi).^[5]

Demographics

As of the 2021 Australian census, 164 people resided in Namatjira,^[6] down from 175 in the 2016 census.^[10] The median age of persons in Namatjira was 29 years. There were fewer males than females, with 45.5% of the population male and 54.5% female. The average household size was 3.6 people per household.^[6]
