Life

In the early 1940s, while residing in Kanpur, Mohan reportedly faced financial difficulties and used a bullock cart for transportation due to the inability to afford a bicycle.[citation needed]

He later entered politics and served as a Member of Parliament representing the BJP, encouraged by senior party leader Lal Krishna Advani.

Mohan's father, Puran Chand Gupta, founded Dainik Jagran in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.[3] This was his third attempt at launching a news business. The newspaper was among the first to switch to color printing and to publish satellite editions. It employs about 3,500 journalists, editors and writers and introduced the concept of mohalla correspondents, or individuals who provide news and updates from their local communities.

According to the Telegraph India, Mohan, the former chairman of the Press Trust of India, campaigned for allowing Foreign Direct Investment in print media.[4]

Sanjay Gupta, Mohan's eldest son, is the Editor-in-Chief and CEO of Dainik Jagran.[5][6]

Mohan died at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on 20 September 2002, at the age of 67, following multi-organ failure.[4]
